BYD M6 teased for Malaysia – EV MPV with up to 530 km range (NEDC)

The BYD M6 is being teased ahead of its launch in Malaysia, in the latest social media post by BYD Cars Malaysia. It is an EV MPV which is available in both 6- and 7-seater configurations, but its specification for the Malaysian market has yet to be confirmed.

The social media posting by BYD Cars Malaysia reads, “An eco-friendly family adventure awaits you! Stay tuned as we reveal more about our next EV.” No information on the BYD M6 has been shared on the official BYD Malaysia website yet.

Previously confirmed for the Malaysian market by Sime Darby beyond Auto, the BYD M6 is already available in Thailand and Indonesia. There are two variants of the M6 in Thailand (Dynamic and Extended) and three variants in Indonesia (Standard, Superior, and Superior Captain).

There are two powertrain options of the BYD M6, with both of them being front-wheel drive (FWD) single motor setups. The first is a 120 kW/310 Nm setup and the other is a 150 kW/310 Nm setup.

There are also two battery sizes for the BYD M6. The first is a smaller 55.4 kWh battery which gives a 420-km NEDC range and the second is a 71.8-kWh battery which gives 530 km of range on the NEDC test cycle.

As for charging, the BYD M6 can only handle 7-kW single phase charging as standard. Dc charging is limited at 85 kW for the lower variant and 115 kW for the higher variant. All versions of the BYD M6 also support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

On the outside, the BYD M6 is a rather generic-looking MPV which is about the size of the Proton Exora. Some of its exterior highlights include its LED headlights, sequential rear indicators, and a powered tailgate (for higher variant).

Inside, the BYD M6 features a 12.8-inch head unit with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, 6 speakers, a 5-inch instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof (for higher variant). Safety-wise, the Thai-spec model gets some advanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), Emergency Lane Keeping Assist (ELKA), and the whole lot.

The launch date of the BYD M6 in Malaysia has yet to be announced.
