2025 Proton Saga MC3 spotted in Kuala Kubu Bharu

While out road testing another vehicle for an upcoming review, we at Cars of Malaysia stumbled upon something unexpected – a camouflaged prototype of the 2025 Proton Saga MC3 undergoing testing in Kuala Kubu Bharu. These exclusive spyshots, captured by our team, offer the clearest look yet at the heavily revised budget sedan, which appears to be in its final stages of development.

Most notably, this is the first time we’re seeing the prototype with its headlamps almost entirely concealed, suggesting significant updates in that department. There’s growing speculation that the Proton Saga MC3 could be the first Saga to feature LED headlamps – at least on the higher-spec variants. Previous sightings showed halogen units, so Proton may be planning to differentiate trim levels more distinctly, much like the Perodua Bezza, which has offered LED lighting across its entire range since its 2020 facelift.

While “MC” typically stands for “minor change” in Proton’s model updates, this third minor-change (MC3) is shaping up to be anything but minor. The test mule hints at substantial cosmetic revisions, including:

  • A new, larger front grille
  • Redesigned bumper and reshaped headlamps
  • Reprofiled bonnet
  • New tail lamps and a reworked boot lid

Inside, the Proton Saga MC3 is also expected to take a significant leap forward. Sources indicate that the MC3 will likely feature a twin-display setup, potentially with a digital instrument cluster paired to a freestanding infotainment screen – a layout in line with newer Proton and Geely models.

One of the most important developments, however, lies in safety. A forward-facing camera mounted on the windscreen confirms that the Proton Saga MC3 will finally gain Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – a sorely missing feature set in the current Saga. This could include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Front Departure Alert, and Pedal Misapplication Control, bringing it on par with the Bezza, which has offered such features since 2020.

Another area ripe for improvement is occupant protection. The current Saga is still limited to just two airbags, and while the car remains underpinned by the long-serving AMA platform – a revised version of the 2008-era BLM architecture – buyers will be hoping for additional airbags and further structural refinements.

As for what’s under the hood, Proton has yet to confirm details. It remains to be seen whether the MC3 will carry forward the 1.3-litre VVT engine or transition to a Geely-sourced powertrain. However, Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah has already hinted that several new models will launch in Q2 2025, so we won’t have to wait long for answers.

From what we’ve seen so far, the Proton Saga MC3 is shaping up to be the model’s most comprehensive update in years – blending modern tech, sharper styling, and long-overdue safety features. Watch this space as we bring you more updates closer to its official debut.
