2025 Jaecoo J8 previewed in Malaysia – from est RM195k, 249PS, 385Nm

Jaecoo Malaysia has taken another step in establishing itself as a challenger brand in the SUV segment with the preview of its latest model, the Jaecoo J8. The D-segment SUV, which made its first local appearance at the Malaysia Auto Show 2024, is now being showcased through a series of preview roadshows, allowing potential buyers to register their interest and provide feedback before its official launch.

According to Emily Lek, Vice President of Jaecoo Malaysia, the J8 represents the brand’s ambition to offer a compelling mix of style, comfort, and performance. “Today, we are beyond excited to give Malaysia a preview of the Jaecoo J8 premium off-road SUV. More importantly, the J8 is tailored to the uniqueness of the market here in Malaysia,” she said.

Under the hood, the J8 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine producing 249PS and 385 Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and features twin exhaust pipes. The SUV also comes with a 65L fuel tank, suggesting it is designed for both long-distance travel and off-road adventures.

Dimension-wise, the J8 is positioned as a sizeable contender in the D-segment, measuring:

1.71m in height

1.93m in width

4.82m in length

2.82m wheelbase

The J8 will be available in two configurations:

A two-wheel drive (2WD) five-seater variant

An all-wheel drive (AWD) six-seater variant

The AWD model is equipped for off-road conditions, featuring Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension technology and a wading depth of 450mm, which could make it a viable option for those who frequently travel on rough terrains.

Jaecoo has placed a strong emphasis on technology and comfort, with both variants featuring a 12.3-inch media display and a 540-degree panoramic camera.

The 2WD variant comes with:

12-speaker Sony sound system

Six airbags

Ambient lighting

Faux leather upholstery

Meanwhile, the AWD model steps up the premium factor with:

14-speaker Sony sound system with headrest speakers

10 airbags

Power doors

Automatic fragrance system

NFC keyless entry

A built-in digital video recorder (DVR) and auto-park feature

Ventilated pilot seat with massage function

Electric-powered front and second-row seats with curtain shades

Genuine leather upholstery with suede panel trimmings

Jaecoo Malaysia has indicated that the J8 AWD six-seater will be priced around RM220,000, while the J8 2WD five-seater is expected to start at approximately RM195,000. This positions the J8 among premium D-segment SUVs, competing with established models in the segment.

Jaecoo is hosting a J8 Preview Roadshow at 1Utama Shopping Centre (GF Luxe) from 27 March to 31 March, followed by stops at Queensbay Mall in Penang from 9 April to 13 April and the Malaysia Auto Show from 8 May to 15 May.

Additionally, the roadshow includes an exhibit on Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System, featuring a working Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) battery pack, giving visitors insight into the brand’s electrification plans.

With the D-segment SUV market becoming increasingly competitive, the Jaecoo J8 aims to carve out a space by balancing off-road capability with urban luxury. Whether it can stand up to established rivals remains to be seen, but for now, Jaecoo is making it clear that it intends to be a serious contender in the Malaysian SUV market.
