2026 Proton X50 Sport Edition previewed – kitted with sporty looks, launching in October
Proton has now revealed the complete details of the Proton X50 Sport Edition. Previously, at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) back in June, the Proton X50 Sport Edition had its windows fully tinted, showcasing only the exterior. According to Proton, the Proton X50 Sport Edition will launch in October, alongside its official pricing, and will only be available in Quartz Black.
So, what is it, and what makes it a ‘Sport Edition’? It is based on the Flagship variant of the Proton X50, receiving an array of sporty design elements throughout the exterior and interior. Exterior-wise, the front upper garnish is finished in black, replacing the previous satin silver finish, while the lower side bumper trim and garnish are also finished in black. The front also receives an additional front skirting with wind-blade-styled edges at both ends. The front skirting is finished in black, with red trim elements and a Sport Edition emblem.
At the side, the 18-inch alloy wheels have also been repainted in gloss black and remain wrapped in Continental UltraContact UC6 tyres, sized at 215/55 R18. There is also an additional Sport Edition side skirting with a red accent stripe. At the rear, the previously out-of-place rear spoiler now feels more at home, with an additional Sport Edition rear skirting attached to the lower bumper. This comes complete with two vertical red accent diffuser elements and rear winglet aero parts on each side. The rear side port trim garnish is also now finished in black, along with a Sport Edition emblem to highlight its identity.
Inside, the two-tone black and mulberry maroon upholstery has been switched to a full-black finish with red stitching, notably on the seats, door cards, and steering wheel. The front two seats also get the Sport Edition logo embroidered into them. There is also a metal door scuff plate at all four doors with the Sport Edition logo, as well as Sport Edition carpets with thermoplastic elastomer floor mats.
In terms of the powertrain, the Proton X50 Sport Edition is still equipped with the 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque. It is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, driving the front wheels. All the other features that come standard on the Flagship variant are present here, including a wireless charger, panoramic roof, and ADAS 2.0, among others.
As it stands, it is uncertain whether the Sport Edition will be a limited-run model or not. More news to come soon.
