From 107k, 2026 Proton X90 MC1 launched – 3 variants, drops hybrid, no ADAS, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto

The 2026 Proton X90 MC1 has been officially launched, with multiple equipment revisions to the 7-seater D-segment SUV. Now comprising only three variants, the Lite, the Prime, and the Prime X, the Proton X90 receives a huge price cut, now starting at RM 106,800 (OTR excluding insurance). Currently, other 7-seater vehicle that competes in this price range are the Toyota Veloz and the Mitsubishi Xpander.

  • Proton X90 Lite – RM 106,800
  • Proton X90 Prime – RM 116,800
  • Proton X90 Prime X – RM 122,800

Starting with the exterior, no changes have been made to the Proton X90 MC1, still retaining its previous design. However, several exterior features have been revised for all three variants, including the absence of 19-inch wheels and panoramic sunroof for the high-spec previous variant. Exterior colours of Ruby Red and Cinnamon Brown have also been dropped.

A huge change has been made under the bonnet; gone is the mild-hybrid 3-cylinder 1.5 litre turbocharged engine, replaced with the now familiar 4-cylinder 1.5 litre turbocharged engine from the Proton X50 FL, the Proton X70 MC3, and the Proton S70 MC1. The 48V Electric Motor Synergy System has been dropped completely, but the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission is retained. All three variants feature the same powertrain setup.

The powertrain details of the Proton X90 MC1 are listed below.

  • Engine:5L 4-cylinder turbocharged (i-GT)

  • Torque – 290 Nm
  • Transmission: 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT)
  • Drivetrain: Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)

Stepping inside, the revisions of the Proton X90 MC1 have been kept to a minimum. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity come as standard for all three variants. Fabric seat material for the lowest variant has been dropped, now wrapped in black leatherette bar the highest variant, which retains the black Nappa leather seat material.

However, the Proton X90 MC1 still retains the basic modern car must-have safety features like Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Stability Control, among others.
