Subaru Unveils 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid with Next-Generation Powertrain

Following its debut in Japan last year, the third-generation Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has now been introduced for the United States. Set to go on sale in fall 2025, the Crosstrek Hybrid will be available as a 2026 model-year vehicle, with pricing details to be announced closer to launch.

Subaru has experimented with hybrid powertrains in the Crosstrek (formerly known as the XV) for over a decade. Previous iterations included a mild hybrid system in 2013, a plug-in hybrid with limited range in 2018, and an e-Boxer mild hybrid system in later years. However, the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid aims to deliver a more capable and competitive hybrid setup.

The new series-parallel hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter Atkinson/Miller-cycle four-cylinder BOXER® engine with an electric motor. The gasoline engine produces 162 hp and 209 Nm of torque, while the electric motor contributes 118 hp and 270 Nm. Combined, the system delivers 194 hp, improving on the previous plug-in hybrid model.

Power for the electric motor comes from a 1.1-kWh battery, which is charged via a separate electric motor generator. The hybrid system is integrated into Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT, which offers six virtual speeds for a more traditional driving experience.

As expected, all-wheel drive (AWD) remains standard, using a mechanical setup with a hydraulic transfer clutch to distribute torque efficiently. With X-Mode and hill descent control, along with 221 mm (8.7 inches) of ground clearance, the Crosstrek Hybrid maintains its off-road capabilities.

For the 2026 model year, the Crosstrek Hybrid introduces two exclusive exterior colors:

• Sand Dune Pearl

• Citron Yellow Pearl

It also rides on 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels, adding to its rugged aesthetic.

Inside, the Crosstrek Hybrid comes with Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology as standard, alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.6-inch STARLINK infotainment system.

The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will be available at dealerships starting in fall 2025, with pricing and additional details to be announced closer to its release. With improved hybrid technology and Subaru’s signature AWD capability, the Crosstrek Hybrid aims to be a stronger contender in the hybrid SUV market.
