Smart #5 previewed in Malaysia – brand’s flagship with up to 646 PS, 590 km range, 800V platform

Pro-Net, the distributor is Smart vehicles in Malaysia, has previewed the Smart #5, its largest model yet. The EV SUV was first shown here at the Malaysia Autoshow in May as a left-hand drive unit, but this preview marks the debut of a right-hand drive version for the local market.

Built on Geely’s SEA3/PMA2+ platform, the #5 will be offered here in three variants, which are Pro, Premium and Brabus.

Smart #5 Powertrain and range

  • Pro (RWD, 400V): 340 PS, 373 Nm, 76 kWh LFP battery, 465 km WLTP, 0–100 km/h in 6.9s
  • Premium (RWD, 800V): 363 PS, 373 Nm, 100 kWh NCM battery, 590 km WLTP, 0–100 km/h in 6.5s
  • Brabus (AWD, 800V): 646 PS, 710 Nm, 100 kWh NCM battery, 540 km WLTP, 0–100 km/h in 3.8s

AC charging is up to 22 kW (11 kW on Pro), while DC fast charging peaks at 150 kW on the Pro and 400 kW on Premium/Brabus.

Smart #5 Dimensions

The #5 measures 4,705 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, 1,705 mm tall with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, putting it in the same size class as the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, BYD Sealion 7 and Xpeng G6.

Smart #5 Design and features

Exterior design emphasises a boxy, rugged stance with light bars and the brand’s oblong signature graphics. Inside, there’s a dual 13-inch AMOLED screen setup, a 10.3-inch digital cluster, a 25.6-inch AR head-up display, and on higher trims, a 20-speaker Sennheiser system with Dolby Atmos.

The Pro gets nine speakers, 19-inch wheels and PU leather trim, while the Premium steps up to 20-inch wheels, Nappa leather, illuminated handles and Sennheiser audio. The Brabus gains AWD, sports suspension, 21-inch wheels, Alcantara steering wheel, red callipers and unique styling cues

Boot capacity is 630 litres (expandable to 1,530L), with an additional 72L frunk on RWD models (42L for Brabus). The cabin offers 34 storage areas, double-glazed glass and comfort features like ventilated and heated seats.

Smart #5 Safety

All variants come with seven airbags and a comprehensive driver assistance suite, including adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, AEB, lane keeping assist, lane change assist, cross-traffic alert and fully autonomous parking.

Smart #5 Price in Malaysia

Prices for the Malaysian market have not been announced. For context, the smart #3 is priced from RM 175,000 to RM 255,000 here, so expect the #5 to sit above that range. Rivals include the Zeekr 7X (RM 179,800 to RM 226,800), BYD Sealion 7 (RM 184,500 to RM 200,500), Xpeng G6 (RM 168,820 to RM 188,820) and Tesla Model Y (from RM 195,450).
