Proton eMas 7 EV SUV: Production expanded to meet surging demand

Proton is boosting the production of its highly anticipated eMas 7 EV SUV by an additional 3,000 units in response to overwhelming demand. According to Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah, the carmaker initially targeted 3,000 bookings over six months but achieved that figure in less than a month. This milestone reflects the growing acceptance of electric vehicles (EVs) among Malaysian consumers.

“Demand is rising, and I am confident that in the next three or four years, people will scramble to use EVs and move further away from buying petrol or diesel vehicles,” Roslan said at the launch of JM Otomobil (EV)’s Proton EV showroom in Wakaf Siku, Kota Bharu.

The eMas 7’s pricing is designed to attract a wide range of customers, with costs comparable to Proton’s popular X50 and X70 SUVs. The EV represents Proton’s commitment to advancing zero-carbon mobility while appealing to technology enthusiasts. Fully imported (CBU) from China, the eMas 7 comes with an introductory RM4,000 rebate, making it even more accessible. Proton has extended its original launch offer to 6,000 customers due to the strong response.

The introductory package includes a host of benefits designed to make EV ownership seamless and affordable. Customers will receive a free 7 kW home charger, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) adaptor, a five-year unlimited data package, and a RM1,200 trade-in rebate. Additionally, financing options through Proton Commerce offer interest rates as low as 1.98%. These incentives position the eMas 7 as one of the most value-packed EVs in its price range, with the Prime variant priced at RM105,800 and the Premium at RM119,800 after the rebate.

Both the Prime and Premium variants are powered by a front-mounted electric motor delivering 218 PS and 320 Nm of torque, achieving a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds. The Prime is equipped with a 49.52 kWh battery that provides a WLTP range of 345 km, while the Premium offers a larger 60.22 kWh battery with a 410 km range. These specifications ensure the eMas 7 is well-suited for both urban and long-distance travel, catering to a variety of driving needs.

Proton is also offering comprehensive warranties for the eMas 7 to provide customers with peace of mind. The vehicle comes with a six-year/unlimited mileage warranty, while the EV components and battery are covered for eight years or 160,000 km. Furthermore, Proton guarantees a free battery replacement if its state of health falls below 70% within the warranty period, demonstrating the brand’s confidence in its EV technology.

The eMas 7 represents a major step forward in Malaysia’s transition to electric mobility. With its competitive pricing, robust specifications, and attractive incentives, the SUV is set to play a pivotal role in popularizing EVs in the country. As demand continues to grow, Proton’s move to ramp up production underscores its commitment to meeting market needs and driving sustainable innovation in the automotive industry.
