Photos: Up close with the BMW 520i M Sport – What do you get for RM377k?

BMW Malaysia recently introduced the 2024 BMW 520i M Sport, expanding its lineup of the locally assembled BMW 5 Series. The new BMW 520i M Sport starts at RM349,800 as a base, while the addition of the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive package with five-year warranty and service package at RM26,900 brings the price to RM376,700 on-the-road without insurance. This is our first encounter with it in the flesh during an event in Kuala Lumpur.

In addition to the standard equipment that consists of the Adaptive LED Headlights and BMW’s kidney grilles with Iconic Glow, the M Sport package gives the new 520i a sportier look by adding on the M-Sport aero kit, M High-Gloss Shadowline trims, and 19-inch Style 935M alloy wheels on the exterior.

Inside, the 520i M Sport’s cabin differentiates itself from it regular sibbling by embracing the M Sport treatment which adds on the M anthracite headliner, 3-spoke M Sport steering wheel, dark chrome accents, and aluminum rhombicle trim.

As in the aspect of connectivity, the car comes with BMW Live Cockpit Professional which includes Heads Up Display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes the frameless BMW Curved Display. It combines a fully digital 12.3” instrument display with a 14.9” touch-enabled control display that runs on BMW Operating System 8.5. Wireless Charging for smartphones is available as well.

Under the hood of the BMW 520i M Sport is the same B48 four-cylinder engine with a 48V mild hybrid system (MHEV) found in the regular 520i, generating 208 PS and 330 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h. All power is sent to the rear wheels in traditional BMW fashion.

In terms of safety, The 2024 BMW 520i M Sport is equipped with BMW’s Driving Assistant Plus package that comes with Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Speed Limit Assist, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, and Parking Assistant Plus.

With the Recommended Retail Price of RM349,800, the BMW 520i M Sport comes with a standard 2-year/unlimited mileage warranty. With the Extended Warranty & Service Package, the BMW 520i M Sport costs RM376,700, but also comes with a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty and a 5-year/100,000 km service package.
