MG S5 EV ANCAP: Five-star safety rating awarded

The MG S5 EV ANCAP safety rating is now official. The electric SUV is awarded a five-star rating under the latest 2023–2025 protocol. The rating applies to all variants introduced in Australia from May 2025 and set to arrive in New Zealand in July.

MG S5 EV ANCAP Safety Scores:

In testing, the MG S5 EV scored 90% for Adult Occupant Protection, with the body structure remaining stable during the frontal offset and side impact tests. Chest protection was rated Adequate for both front occupants in the frontal offset and full-width frontal tests. A centre airbag, fitted as standard, provided Good protection in side impacts

For Child Occupant Protection, the MG S5 EV achieved a score of 86%. Crash test results showed Good protection for child dummies in frontal and side impact scenarios. The only noted limitation was Adequate protection for the neck of the 10-year-old dummy in the frontal offset test. ISOFIX and top tether anchorages are fitted to the outer rear seats.

The MG S5 EV recorded 82% for Vulnerable Road User Protection. Forward autonomous emergency braking (AEB) tests showed Good responsiveness to pedestrian and cyclist scenarios. However, performance in AEB Backover and motorcyclist detection tests was rated as Marginal to Adequate.

Under the Safety Assist category, the S5 EV scored 79%. Standard systems include AEB (Car-to-Car, Junction, and Crossing), lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, speed assistance with sign recognition, and driver monitoring for fatigue.
