Leapmotor C10 update coming to Malaysia soon – CKD with more power and range?

The Leapmotor C10 was first launched in Malaysia back in October 2024 and is now set for a second update in Malaysia, according to Leapmotor Malaysia, with a teaser post across all its social media featuring the tagline “more power, more range”.

The D-segment all-electric SUV was first updated last year in June with minor revisions, consisting of a switch of onboard AC charger, from a 6.6 kW unit to an 11 kW unit, plus additional kits which include a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a motorised inflator kit, and a tonneau cover for the rear luggage space.

Referring to the latest Leapmotor C10 version in China, more power and more range do indeed correlate, as the updated Chinese version produces 299 PS, good for a 0 – 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, from the 231 PS on the previous Leapmotor C10 sold there. However, this is a mere speculation as our current Leapmotor C10 only produces 210 PS with a 0 – 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, a slightly lower output than even the earlier Chinese variant.

Now, to the range, the Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery unit remains, but it’s now a 74.9 kW/h battery pack, instead of the existing 69.9 kWh battery pack. With that said, a quoted CLTC range of 605 km (495 km WLTP range) is achieved, 70 km more than the current Leapmotor C10. Finally, the Chinese Leapmotor C10 switched its 400-volt architecture to an 800-volt unit, which will follow suit if it were to get more power and more range.

Other minor changes might include a new purple exterior colour, electrically powered door handles, and a 50-watt wireless charging pad with the same exterior and interior features beyond that. The current price for the Leapmotor C10 is at RM 125,000, a reduction in price from the original RM 159,000 that was made together with the first update in June last year.

Another question remained to be answered is whether the updated Leapmotor C10 will arrive in Malaysia as a CKD. Leapmotor Malaysia has previously mentioned that the Leapmotor C10 is scheduled for local assembly at Stellantis’ plant in Gurun, Kedah, slated to begin at the end of last year. More news to come soon.
