Hybrid Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 to compete in WRC 2022

Toyota Gazoo Racing has announced that the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1  will compete in WRC 2022.

The Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 is a hybrid-powered rally version of the road-going 2021 Toyota GR Yaris.

Rally1 is a WRC division that requires competing cars to be powered by a hybrid powertrain that must use a 136 PS/180 Nm electric motor and 3.9-kWh battery supplied by Compact Dynamics, a German-based company.

The Rally1 division also requires manufacturers to use their 1.6-litre turbocharged engines carried over from existing WRC cars, delivering roughly about 380 PS

As for the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, that means it has to use the same 1.6-litre turbocharged, petrol engine used in the Toyota Yaris WRC that makes just a tad over 380 PS/425 Nm.
