Toyota Gazoo Racing has announced that the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 will compete in WRC 2022.
The Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 is a hybrid-powered rally version of the road-going 2021 Toyota GR Yaris.
Rally1 is a WRC division that requires competing cars to be powered by a hybrid powertrain that must use a 136 PS/180 Nm electric motor and 3.9-kWh battery supplied by Compact Dynamics, a German-based company.
The Rally1 division also requires manufacturers to use their 1.6-litre turbocharged engines carried over from existing WRC cars, delivering roughly about 380 PS.
As for the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, that means it has to use the same 1.6-litre turbocharged, petrol engine used in the Toyota Yaris WRC that makes just a tad over 380 PS/425 Nm.
