Geely’s factory has 5G+ connectivity, shares supplier with Porsche and Rolls-Royce

Chinese automotive giant, Geely, has decided to give us a glimpse of its 5G+-connected factory in Changxing that currently only produces the fourth-generation Geely Emgrand.

Let’s check out the information and pictures provided by Geely themselves to see what’s do special about this 5G-connected factory.

1. 100% automation for certain processes.

This factory is capable of producing one car in every two minutes thanks to a 100%-automated welding shop.

Just like the ZEEKR factory that we got a glimpse of back in August 2021, automation is the key to keeping up with high-volume production demands.

2. Robots that love Kenny G (and have 5G connectivity)

Geely says you can’t go 10 meters in its factory without bumping into one of its many AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) constantly moving around the factory.

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV)

What keeps all the AGVs performing their respective tasks and working in perfect symphony is the 5G-connectivity throughout the Changxing facility.

These AGVs also play soothing tunes by Kenny G to reduce the risk of human operators bumping into them and provide a Jazz-club-like ambience on the factory floor.

A factory-wide, super-fast 5G+ network covers the factory in a net of connectivity that allows for seamless communication between devices and cloud services.

Online data entries are updated with live information such as inventory levels, production status and AGV locations.

With this information at hand, these robots will never make a mistake in their deliveries; the best robot will be selected for the job and the task completed. On a given day, each of these robots will deliver up to 7,000 parts to those in need.

3. Quality control that consists of 80 rigorous tests

Each car (the Geely Emgrand for now) from the Changxing production line goes through a 2.4km ‘assault course’ with a total of 80 separate tests that check performance, handling, mechanics and electronics. Only those that pass are permitted to leave.

As for sealing from water, each car goes through three different levels of water testing – first, a 360-degree rain test; then, a 3-minute rainstorm and lastly, a 3-hour typhoon simulator to make sure not a single drop gets in

5. Sharing the same stamping supplier with Rolls-Royce and Porsche

This Geely factory boasts sharing the same stamping supplier with Porsche and Rolls-Royce. But this has nothing to do at all with its 5G+ connectivity.  So we’ll put this last. It’s a notable fact, nonetheless.
