First CKD Jaecoo J7 PHEV rolls off Shah Alam production line, launching Feb 2025

The first CKD Jaecoo J7 PHEV has rolled off its Shah Alam production line. Set to be launched in February 2025, it is essentially the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Jaecoo J7 which was launched in Malaysia in July 2024.

For those unfamiliar with the J7 PHEV, it is a C-segment SUV that rivals the likes of the Proton X70. Its design elements resembles that of a Range Rover although it isn’t exactly as large as one. Its wheelbase measures 2,672 mm and it has a ground clearance of 200 mm.

The highlight of this new variant is its PHEV powertrain that boasts a seemingly long full-tank-and-charge range of over 1,000 km. Jaecoo Malaysia even recently conducted a long-distance drive from Singapore to Hatyai, Thailand and clocked over 1,200km on a full tank (and charge). Jaecoo states that the J7 PHEV has a fuel consumption of just 5.99 l/100 km and on electric power alone, it can be driven for up to 106 km (NEDC).

Making up the PHEV system of the CKD Jaecoo J7 PHEV is a 1.5-litre TGDI engine, a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and a high performance battery pack. Combined, the powertrain puts out a total power of 255 kW and a total torque of 525 Nm. From the outside, the easiest way to tell the PHEV J7 apart from its ICE counterpart would be via its wheels which have a more aerodynamic design.

Jaecoo Malaysia Vice President, Emily Lek said, “We believe the Jaecoo J7 PHEV fits in perfectly with the market’s appetite for an alternative between the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) segments providing the best of both worlds with its superior Super Hybrid System fondly known as SHS. As Malaysia’s EV ecosystem continues to develop, Jaecoo is happy to offer greater peace of mind to consumers considering the transition to hybrid energy mobility. Beyond delivering a great premium SUV, our JAECOO network is also equipped and ready to care for our PHEV customers which is key to the longevity of their ownership journey with Jaecoo.”
