Jaecoo J5 EV teased for Malaysia, launching soon?

Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia has announced on social media that the Jaecoo J5 EV will be arriving in Malaysia soon. The new model is the fully electric variant of the Jaecoo J5, which was recently launched in early 2026. According to Omoda | Jaecoo’s social media post, this will be the brand’s first fully electric SUV in Malaysia. Elsewhere, the Jaecoo J5 EV was launched in Indonesia and Thailand last year.

Dimension-wise, the Indonesian-spec Jaecoo J5 EV is identical to its ICE counterpart, measuring 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. As such, the Jaecoo J5 EV has a wheelbase that is 10 mm longer than that of the Chery Tiggo Cross and Honda HR-V. With the absence of an engine, it offers a 35-litre frunk and a rear luggage compartment with a capacity of 480 litres, expandable to 1,284 litres with the rear seats folded.

In terms of powertrain, it is equipped with a single electric motor mounted on the front axle, producing 210 PS and 288 Nm of torque. The battery has a capacity of 60.9 kWh and supports DC fast charging at up to 130 kW. Driving range is rated at 461 km (NEDC), while the 0–100 km/h sprint is completed in 7.3 seconds.

Exterior-wise, the Indonesian-market Jaecoo J5 EV features a clean front-end design, with a boxy lower fascia replacing the large waterfall grille found on the ICE variant. Other exterior highlights include a panoramic roof with a power sunshade, a power tailgate, and 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the Jaecoo J5 EV comes equipped with double-layer acoustic glass, synthetic leather upholstery, a 13.2-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen, an 8-inch LCD instrument cluster, 64 colours ambient lighting, and an eight-speaker audio system. It also features a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, along with six airbags and a 540-degree camera system.

For context, the ICE-powered Jaecoo J5 retails at RM108,000 in Malaysia and comes with a seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty. In Indonesia, the Jaecoo J5 EV is priced between 249.9 million rupiah and 299.9 million rupiah (RM63,000–RM75,000), while in Thailand, it is priced between 549,000 baht and 679,000 baht (RM71,000–RM88,000).
