W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class launched in Malaysia, in PHEV variant only

The W223 Mercedes-Benz S- Class has been launched in Malaysia today, in a sole variant, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class S580e PHEV (plug-in hybrid).
Price of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class 580e is being finalised, but Mercedes-Benz said that it is expected to cost more than the W222 S560e (RM659k).
Measuring 5,179 mm long, 1,921 mm wide, and 1,503 mm tall, the W223 S-Class is bigger in all dimensions than the W222.
Under the hood of the W223 S580e is the 3.0-litre turbocharges M256 engine (367 PS/500 Nm). The electric motor from the hybrid powertrain (150 PS/440 Nm), providing a total system output of 510 PS/750 Nm.
The transmission in use is Mercedes-Benz’s 9G-tronic automatic gearbox.
Thanks to the 28.6-kWh lithium battery pack, the Mercedes-Benz S580e even boasts a pure-electric range of 100 km (WLTP cycle)
The small PHEV battery can be charged though the car’s 11-kW on-board charger. This allows the car to get to an 80% state of charge in 2.5 hours. DC fast charging is not available in the Malaysian-spec W223 S-Class.
On the outside, the W223 Mercedes-Benz S580e gets:
- Digital Lights Headlights
- Air-matic air suspension with adaptive dampers
- 19-inch alloy wheels
- Run-flat tyres (Pirelli Cinturato)
The highlight is the Digital Light system that is highly intelligent (provide maximum illumination without blinding other drivers), can project warning symbols on the road, and perform customisable light shows.
The interior of the W223 S-Class has been revamped, giving of the feeling of a futuristic and luxurious lounge for you to relax in. The Mercedes-Benz S580e offers amenities such as:
- 12.8-inch OLED portrait-oriented centre display
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- Burmester 3D surround sound system,
- MBUX rear-seats entertainment system with twin 11-inch displays, two wireless headsets, and a 7.0-inch Android tablet for controls
- Electrically-adjustable rear seats with heating and cooling, calf massage functions
- Automatic climate control
- Panoramic sliding sunroof
As for materials, the Mercedes-Benz S580e offers Nappa leather upholstery and Anthracite open-pore poplar wood trims.
Also equipped with the Mercedes-Benz Driving Assistance, safety features like ACC, LKA, Parktronic, AEB, and Pre-safe pre-collision protection are standard equipment.
