Volvo Car Malaysia renames EC40, 554km range and new colour option
Volvo Car Malaysia has renamed its fully electric crossover SUV, introducing the Volvo EC40 for the 2025 model year. Previously known as the C40 Recharge, the model now comes with an extended range of 554km per charge and a new Cloud Blue exterior colour.
The name change is part of Volvo’s broader strategy to simplify its model lineup and improve clarity for customers. Beyond the new badge, the EC40 remains largely the same as its predecessor but benefits from a slight increase in range and retains key features that have made it a popular choice among electric vehicle buyers.
While the EC40 is fundamentally the same vehicle as the outgoing C40 Recharge, there are some notable improvements:
• Extended Driving Range: The 554km range (WLTP cycle) marks a small but useful improvement over the previous model
• 82kWh Battery with Faster Charging: The battery supports up to 200kW DC fast charging, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 28 minutes.
• New Cloud Blue Colour: The EC40 introduces a fresh exterior colour option, joining Onyx Black, Crystal White, Silver Dawn, and Sage Green.
The EC40 continues to offer the twin-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, producing 300kW from its second-generation permanent magnet rear electric motor. Volvo promises an engaging and responsive driving experience, with the new rear-biased power delivery enhancing performance.
Inside, the Google-based infotainment system remains a key highlight, providing access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play Store. Buyers also get five years of complimentary digital services and a five-year Volvo Service Plan (VSP) covering scheduled maintenance at authorized Volvo service centres.
The EC40 is part of Volvo’s push toward full electrification, with battery electric and plug-in hybrid models accounting for 83% of its total retail sales in 2024, up from 71% the previous year. The brand now offers three fully electric models in Malaysia the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, EX30, and EC40 with the flagship EX90 set to arrive later in 2024.
The Volvo EC40 is priced at RM288,888, the same as its predecessor. Buyers can take advantage of flexible financing options through Volvo Car Financial Services, with lower interest rates available. As an added incentive, those who book the EC40 before 31 March 2025 will receive a complimentary RM5,000 wall box voucher for home charging installation.
Bookings for the EC40 are now open at Volvo dealerships nationwide. More information can be found on Volvo Car Malaysia’s website and social media channels.
While the name may have changed, the EC40 remains a key part of Volvo’s growing electric vehicle lineup, offering a blend of performance, practicality, and premium features in an increasingly competitive EV market.
