Perodua QV-E launched, from RM80k (not inclusive of battery)

Perodua has just launched its first-ever electric car, the Perodua QV-E (pronounced QV). With only one variant available, it costs RM80,000 OTR without insurance and without battery. And you read that write, the price is not inclusive of the battery, which you will have to subscribe to via the Battery as a Service programme (with a monthly plan of circa RM275).

Dimension-wise, it is a bout the size of the Proton e.MAS 5 and the BYD Dolphin. It is 41,70 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,50s mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 2,680 mm long and its ground clearance is 158 mm. As for its weight, the QV-E tips the scale at 1,600kg, just slightly lighter than the BYD Dolphin.

With only a single variant being offered, the exterior features of the Perodua QV-E include double projector LED headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRL), and front and rear sequential turn signals. Other exterior features include:

The QV-E uses a 52.5-kWh LFP battery pack, delivering 445 km of range (NEDC). It is driven by a single electric motor producing 204 PS and 285 Nm torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 165 km/h. Charging can be done at a maximum rate of 6.6 kW with AC charging and 60 kW with DC charging.

Inside, the cabin features a digital rear view mirror, a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, as well as the rotary gear shifter. A breakdown of the interior features that can be found in the QV-E is as follows:

On-the-road price for the Perodua EQ-V is RM80,000 excluding insurance and battery. The battery itself is not sold with the car — instead, Perodua offers it under a mandatory “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) leasing programme, which spreads battery cost over a 9-year term contract rather than a lump sum payment. This means you will need to pay RM275 a month on top of your car instalment.
