BMW iX1L debuts as brand’s first EV SUV manufactured in India

Auto Expo 2025 held in New Delhi marked a significant milestone for BMW India with the unveiling of the X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric (EV)—the first-ever locally manufactured BMW EV in India. Produced at the brand’s Chennai plant, the SUV expands BMW’s footprint in the country’s growing luxury electric vehicle market. Bookings are now open at BMW dealerships nationwide, with deliveries expected to begin in the second half of 2025.

Positioned as BMW’s entry-level electric SUV, the X1 Long Wheelbase EV comes with a 66.4 kWh battery and an eDrive20L drivetrain, offering a range of up to 531 km per charge (MIDC cycle). The model aims to provide both city commuters and long-distance travelers with a versatile, efficient, and premium driving experience.

Single-motor, front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration

Power output: 204 hp (150 kW)

Torque: 250 Nm

Acceleration (0-100 km/h): 7.9 seconds

Top speed: 180 km/h

Charging capabilities are also a highlight, with the SUV supporting fast-charging technology:

130 kW DC fast charger: Charges from 10% to 80% in just 29 minutes

11 kW AC Wallbox: Charges from 0% to 100% in approximately 6 hours 30 minutes

With a longer wheelbase than previous models, the X1 Long Wheelbase EV offers an enhanced cabin experience, featuring extended legroom and 540 litres of cargo space. Its dimensions make it one of the most spacious electric SUVs in its segment:

It comes with a standard two-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, with options for extended coverage. BMW India also provides customized financing plans and roadside assistance.

With the luxury EV market in India rapidly expanding, BMW’s move to locally manufacture the X1 Long Wheelbase EV signals a push towards more accessible premium electric mobility in the country.
