2025 Proton X50 facelift – New 4-cyl turbo, redesigned interior, now with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The 2025 Proton X50 has been officially previewed in Malaysia, having been just over a year since the RC update. The company is calling it the “all-new” X50 but in reality, this is a major facelift with key upgrades under the bonnet and inside the cabin. Think more Vios NCP150 to NSP151 than a clean-sheet model.

The biggest change is the new engine. The previous 3-cylinder units are gone. All variants now share the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine.

New 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo engine for 2025 Proton X50

The biggest news is the switch to a 4-cylinder engine across the range. Proton has dropped the previous three-cylinder setups. It now gets:

  • 1.5L i-GT 4-cylinder turbocharged engine
  • 181 PS, 290 Nm (+4 PS, 35 Nm)
  • 7-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • 0–100 km/h in 7.6 seconds
  • Up to 4.7% better fuel consumption

For the first time, all variants of the 2025 X50 share the same powertrain. The previous split between MPI and TGDi engines is gone.

Exterior highlights on the new Proton X50:

  • New grille and revised bumpers
  • LED headlamps (now reflectors, previously projectors) and LED light bar at the rear
  • Redesigned 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Redesigned rear spoiler

Interior of the 2025 Proton X50 – full redesign

The cabin sees the most dramatic change, with elements inspired by the eMas 7. It gets features like:

  • 14.6-inch Full HD infotainment system
  • 8.88-inch digital instrument panel
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wired and wireless
    Wireless charger
  • Column-mounted gear selector
  • New floating centre console with storage underneath
  • 72-colour ambient lighting
  • 6-way power driver seat, rear AC vents, 4 USB ports
  • Voice command support in Bahasa Melayu and English
  • New Adaptive Mode (auto-adjusts based on driving style)

ADAS and safety upgrades for the 2025 Proton X50:

  • 6 airbags (standard)
  • ADAS Level 2: AEB, ACC with Stop & Go, FCW, LDW, LDP, LCC
  • Auto Park Assist (parallel + perpendicular)
  • 360° HD camera with 180° transparent view
  • New Rear Side Radar system adds: Lane Change Assist, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning
  • Proton Link 2.0 connectivity: Remote start, vehicle status, air-con control, live tracking and geolocation, service history and maintenance scheduling

2025 Proton X50 – fewer variants, same engine

Previously offered in four variants (Standard, Executive, Premium, Flagship), the 2025 Proton X50 facelift appears to streamline this to three: Executive, Premium, and Flagship. All now share the same 4-cylinder engine.

Pricing has yet to be announced. For reference, the current X50 RC starts from RM86,300 and tops out at RM 113,300.
