Volvo ES90: Leaked image reveals flagship EV sedan – Debuts 5th March
Volvo’s upcoming flagship electric sedan, the ES90, is set to make its official debut on March 5. However, ahead of its launch, an image of the car has been leaked, courtesy of a Dutch source, adding to the excitement surrounding the vehicle. The leak, reported by Swedish website Alltomelbil, offers a first look at the highly anticipated sedan, which is expected to set new standards for electric vehicles (EVs) in terms of performance, range, and sustainability.
The ES90 will be Volvo’s premium battery-electric sedan, marking a significant step forward in the company’s electric vehicle strategy. The sedan will feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, which is a significant upgrade over the 400-volt system found in the EX90 SUV. This advanced system is expected to provide superior performance, faster charging times, and enhanced efficiency, making the ES90 one of the most cutting-edge EVs in its class.
One of the most striking features of the Volvo ES90 is its range. Thanks to the 800-volt technology and a newly optimized battery management system, the ES90 is capable of achieving up to 700 km of range on the WLTP testing cycle. This impressive range is complemented by the sedan’s ultra-fast charging capabilities. Volvo claims that the ES90 can regain 300 km of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a DC fast charger delivering 350 kW. This makes the ES90 an incredibly practical option for long-distance drivers, minimizing the need for lengthy charging stops.
In addition to the ultra-fast charging, Volvo has also focused on improving the overall charging time. New software and hardware optimizations allow the ES90 to charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes, a 30% reduction in time compared to previous models. This advancement further enhances the convenience and usability of the vehicle, aligning with the needs of modern EV consumers.
While the Volvo ES90 promises impressive range and charging capabilities, it also aims to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. The sedan’s lighter components, including the drive motors, contribute to its overall efficiency, range, and acceleration. By reducing the weight of the vehicle, Volvo has improved the performance of the ES90 while maintaining energy efficiency—essential for any modern electric vehicle. The ES90 will also be available with an all-wheel-drive AWD configuration, ensuring strong traction and stability in various driving conditions.
As with all of Volvo’s electric vehicles, sustainability is a core principle of the ES90. The materials used in the construction of the sedan are a testament to this commitment. A notable 29% of the aluminium and 18% of the steel used in the ES90 is recycled, while 16% of the vehicle’s polymers are recycled, and bio-based materials have been incorporated where possible. Additionally, the interior features FSC-certified wood, further emphasizing Volvo’s dedication to reducing the environmental impact of its vehicles.
With the ES90, Volvo is pushing the boundaries of what an electric vehicle can offer. From its advanced 800-volt electrical architecture to its sustainable construction and impressive range, the ES90 is poised to be a game-changer in the luxury electric sedan market. While more details will be revealed during its official debut on March 5, the leaked image and early specifications already paint a promising picture for the future of electric mobility.
In the coming years, it’s likely that we’ll see other Volvo models, such as the EX90, adopting similar 800-volt technology, further expanding the brand’s electrified lineup and reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future.
As Volvo gears up for the official unveiling of the ES90, the excitement surrounding the sedan is only expected to grow, with many eager to see how it performs on the road. With its combination of cutting-edge technology, performance, and sustainability, the ES90 is shaping up to be a true flagship in the electric vehicle market.
