Facelifted Volkswagen ID.4 renamed as ID. Tiguan, in line with ID. Polo

The Volkswagen ID.4 is a fully electric C-segment compact SUV, built on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform. With an update coming soon, it will reportedly be renamed as the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan. According to Automotive News, the facelifted Volkswagen ID. Tiguan is set to debut later this year, announced by German industrial union IG Metall together with the name change. The name change was done to shift away from the numerical “ID” naming system, like the Volkswagen ID. Polo.

Looking at the spy shots, the front now features a thicker centre strip that connects the two headlights, while the rear features a new full-width taillight bar. A redesigned lower rear bumper features a new ‘diffuser’ look. Conventional door handles are set to replace the flush electronic door handles, and the D-pillars are redesigned, bringing the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan silhouette closer to its internal combustion engine sibling, the Volkswagen Tiguan.

No spy shots available for the interior; however, it is expected to resemble the Volkswagen ID. Polo’s design, featuring more physical buttons and an easier display user interface. The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan is also expected to have an updated Volkswagen Group MEB+ platform, adding Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries in a bid to cut costs.

The Volkswagen ID.4 was once previewed here in Malaysia, but it was never launched. The Volkswagen Tiguan, however, is only offered as a 7-seater called the Tiguan Allspace, a larger version of the normal 5-seater Tiguan. The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace comes in four different variants, with prices starting from RM 205,990, all the way to RM 263,990.
