Chery recalls 1,108 units of Chery Tiggo 7, Jaecoo J7 – potential engine stalling risk

In China, Chery Automobile has filed a recall plan for two of its SUVs, the Chery Tiggo 7 1.6T and the Chery Tansuo 06 (sold as Jaecoo J7 here in Malaysia), over a potential safety defect. According to Car News China, the recall was filed with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation on January 23rd, 2026.

The recall plan included a total of 1,108 combined units of the Chery Tiggo 7 1.6T and the Chery Tansuo 06 (Jaecoo J7) manufactured between April 1st and December 8th, 2025. The recall plan was done due to a potential engine stalling risk stemming from the Engine Control Unit’s (ECU) branch wiring harness clip not being secured properly during assembly. Over a period of time, the wiring harness could develop abrasion wear from constantly rubbing against other components. This could lead to an engine stall, posing a safety risk to the occupants and other road users, especially when the vehicle is moving.

Chery Automobile has said that a free inspection of the ECU branch wiring harness assembly will be provided for all the affected vehicles. If the wiring harness clip is found to be installed incorrectly, Chery Automobile will cover the cost of repairing or replacing the affected components with no cost incurred by the owners.

Luckily, the recall does not affect the Malaysian units, as our Chery Tiggo 7 is locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah. The same goes for our Jaecoo J7, but assembled at Shah Alam, Selangor instead. Our Jaecoo J7 was initially brought into Malaysia as CBU units, but these early models are not within the recall scope.
