Volvo EX30 Cross Country unveiled - 18mm taller, all terrain tyres

Volvo has officially unveiled the EX30 Cross Country, an adventurous variant of its popular small electric SUV. Building upon the success of the EX30, which achieved 98,100 sales in 2024, the Cross Country edition is designed for “weekend explorers” seeking a blend of urban convenience and off-road capability.

The EX30 Cross Country distinguishes itself with several enhancements:

• Increased Ground Clearance: The vehicle’s suspension has been raised by approximately 0.7 inches, providing better clearance for uneven terrains.

• All-Terrain Tires: Equipped with all-terrain tires, the EX30 Cross Country is better suited for off-road conditions.

• Exterior Enhancements: The SUV features black cladding, new skid plates, and exclusive 18-inch wheels housed within pronounced wheel arches, giving it a more robust appearance.

• Rear Suspension Modifications: The rear suspension has been adjusted with a softer spring rate and damper settings to better handle bumpy terrain.

Under the hood, the EX30 Cross Country is powered by a 69-kilowatt-hour battery pack (64 kWh usable) that feeds two electric motors, delivering a combined output of 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. This setup provides a WLTP range of approximately 426km on a single charge, though the EPA rating is pending. It’s worth noting that the optional all-terrain tires may slightly reduce the overall range. The vehicle supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be replenished from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes.

The EX30 Cross Country is set to enter the U.S. market, with pricing details to be announced. It’s anticipated that this variant will be priced higher than the standard EX30, which starts at $46,195 before options. In Malaysia, Volvo Car Malaysia has begun accepting bookings for the locally assembled (CKD) EX30, with prices starting from RM208,888.
